Lions in the Street

Snakes on a Plane, Lions in the Street? Someone please call animal control! Ba-dum-chick!
Borrowing styles from bands like The Rolling Stones and Lynyrd Skynyrd, the Vancouver based rock band Lions in the Street has reformed classic rock. These guys are a welcome blast from the past, bringing an old sound to a new generation.

Those Crazy Asians Part II

Mustang Lightning

Veterans of the 80's punk scene, Mustang Lightning is still riding strong on the talent of frontman Phil Deville. In 2005, they put out the Rockabilly album, Texas Voodoo Surf. Mustang Lightning's carefree yet energetic songs make them the ideal band for skaters, surfers and freestylers. These guys belong on a Quentin Tarantino soundtrack: Its fun and weird at the same time.

Velabonz

What the hell is a Velabonz? I have no idea where this band got its name from, but based on the four songs below, "Velabonz" deserves a place in the dictionary, and a spot in your CD collection. Out of Portland, this five-membered group somehow creates harmonious rock songs among their multi-layered tracks, and never dedicates itself to a certain genre of sound. This is a well balanced rock band that will cater to anyone who's not looking for something specific. They have videos for their songs at their website.

The Briefs

If The Ramones were still alive and playing, The Briefs would be the perfect openers. Bursting out of Seattle, the Briefs have already become a European phenomenon, and have found a loyal US fan base in the niche punk scene. The energy behind their songs and the cultural throwbacks in their style has made me keep their tunes on repeat for the past few days.
Notice how much "Poor and Weird" sounds like an original reconstruction of "Pinhead" by The Ramones. I love it.

Free Underoath Show, Tampa FL

Fenix TX

I'm very excited that these guys gave me permission to post a web mix. Growing up, I found myself at many Fenix TX shows, drawn by their high energy punk rock sound. Their infectiously catchy song "Flight 601 (All I Got is Time)" lived on the radio, and brought the band countless fans. Now on an independent label, Houston's Fenix TX have continued their musical careers sans MCA, and are rocking harder than ever.

Random Thoughts

Random Thoughts makes me nostalgic for memories I've never had. This Vancouver-based band delivers soft melodic tunes using nothing more than vocals and acoustic guitars. The recording quality on these tracks flat out suck, so I questioned putting this album up, but the songs themselves made up for the static.

Rockethouse

Rockethouse sounds like a soundtrack to a European action flick that makes no sense, but looks cool. This Brooklyn band combines electronic rock with trance beats to create their signature sound. In Assaultive Mix, they take a cue from P-Diddy, and use a sample from a popular song from the good old days (couple of months ago). Rockethouse is not for everyone, but if you like Apex Twins or Chemical Brothers, RH may be a worthy addition to your mp3 collection.

Hello Tokyo

Great things come out of Washington DC: Corrupt politicians, impractical landmarks and Hello Tokyo, a pop rock band with an arsenal of infectious songs that will be left spinning in your head once the needle goes up. Now Brooklyn based, this chick-fronted band is playing all over the northeast. Radio and Bury Yourself are must haves.
Beautiful Singer + Fun, Happy Music = I Like.
