VMA Winners 2006
Perhaps I'm getting too old (21), but I've got to say that this years MTV Video Music Awards did not entertain me at all.
Besides the terrible monologue and the oversaturated performances, what bothers me most about this years VMAs is that it still exists. MTV stopped playing music videos three years ago. There is no need for them to be honoring artists that they don't showcase. The only artist that MTV should honor is Xzibit, since his ride-pimping skills are the only source of entertainment on their channel.
Despite my disappointment in tonight's show, I have spent (wasted) an hour putting together the nominees and winners of the awards that matter.

Good job MTV. This is the year of the EMO.

how can panic! at the disco be the best video out there (winning video of the year) yet cannot win the category which their music is apart of (rock video category).
Posted by: joe cal | September 1, 2006 5:46 AM
You aren't getting old. The "M" in MTV just stopped standing for "Music." The one silver lining is that Panic! At the Disco won vid of the year (it's a great vid).
Posted by: Nate | September 1, 2006 9:25 AM
they had some tough choices but they picked a lot of the same people. don't know how they put panic!at the disco in the top 5 rock vid's.
Posted by: luke bart | September 1, 2006 9:40 AM
Think about this......Alot of music made after 2000 is very simple and uncreative. It is too bad that the first decade of the new century will be known as the worst in music history. The record companies are handing out contracts these days like its a charity auction. Although that doesn't mean they should have a contract. On a different note MTV has slipped into the biggest slump in its existence. So is this the beginning of the END?
Posted by: Arthur B. Miller | September 1, 2006 9:52 AM
To start, none of these bands are "emo". And out of all of the videos nominated for video of the year, Panic's video was probably the most unique. Even put aside that they sound annoying, after I think about it I think that it seemed like the best choice. It's "Best Video", not "Best Song".
And for the rest, lots of upsets. Maybe MTV will take Lou Reed's advice and get more rock music. They are getting to the point where they should just be renamed RTV with all of their reality shows.
Posted by: ran | September 1, 2006 10:16 AM
how the hell did Chamillionair beat T.I., Busta, and Kanye?! The only things that were good about the show were the performances.
Posted by: Bea Arthur | September 1, 2006 10:30 AM
I agree Completely with the fact that MTV just SUCKS ass now. THey dont play videos at all and if they do they just show 5 min of them boooooo tho that. ANd i am a huge rock fan and am dissapointed in the lack of rock also. They need to step up and go back to the way they were now!
Posted by: Aylin | September 1, 2006 10:32 AM
I havent actually seen the Panic at the Disco video because I have this feeling that is the same sort of premise as that Killers video with Eric Roberts in it..? I have no idea. I figured catchy tune, costumes, mini-drama, etc. How are they different? I saw a video by some group where they were all dancing on treadmills and I thought that was the most entertaining thing I've recently come across. Otherwise, I found the Gnarls Barkly video with the Rorschach idea quite cool..considering the title of the song was "Crazy". How did that not win for originality alone? Fot the Record, that Panic at the Disco (stupidest name ever) song drives me up the frickin wall!! Annoying notes, voice, catch, everything. grrrrr.
Posted by: me | September 1, 2006 10:33 AM
I don't know, but just going from the videos nominated for Best Video, Panic's was most unique, and the lyrics actually went with the song. Most music videos nowadays are something random and completely different from the meaning of the song.

If the original poster is old (21?), I must be ancient (soon to be 38). I remember when MTV first came out when I was a young teen, and when the M in MTV did stand for music videos. I'm glad I didn't waste my time watching it. Some of the artists I never heard of, and I don't think some of them are exceptionally talented. Just my opinion.
Posted by: Fran | September 1, 2006 10:39 AM
MTV is crap! Mainstream music is just for the retarded lowest common denominator. No artist today has talent except for a few like Nelly Furtado who sang about "!@#$ on the radio!"
Posted by: Joe Smith | September 1, 2006 11:05 AM
Well then, I know I'm getting old. When the MTV award shows started at least the very first opening act came out with a bang an was something you talked about for days. One of the best performances was Beyonce. She should have opened the show. Sorry Justin, but the 2 songs you did sounded so alike we thought it was the same song, or was it ?? I'm not gonna sit here an bash, but just overall, if MTV never did another award show, I truely don't think anyone would miss it. Hmmmmm, I don't remember seeing a video played on MTV in a long time, do they still even show videos??? MTV needs to do less reality shows an get back to what they really started out to do. PLAY THE VIDEOS !!!!
Posted by: Anonymous | September 1, 2006 11:07 AM
There is no such thing as the VMAs on MTV anymore. In order to have a VMA MTV has to play music videos! Throughout the past few years MTV has taken a tremendous dump. Shortly after 9-11 MTV started to play music videos again in heavy rotation even in 2002 I can remember watching music videos in the evening. Now it's MTV's job just put whatever teenybopper crap shows they can think of overnight into rotation. I don't think MTV will ever go back to actually playing music videos, that would involve a drop in profits and some EMO teenage kids would be crying because High School Diaries or some date show was cancelled waah waaaaaaaah. Bottom line no music videos=no VMA, even M2 is turing into a piece of crap. MTV took a major dump when they tried to "reinvent themselves."
Posted by: Alex | September 1, 2006 11:16 AM
Is it just me, or is Kanye West just flat out annoying lately? He's nominated for an award, yet complains because they didn't nominate the video he wanted them to. Let's get serious- he was never praised for his talent- he was praised because he recorded an album with his jaw wired shut. THATS ALL! His arrogance is a complete and total turn off to anything else he has to say (which isn't much). He hasn't done anything to make himself stand out above any other artists, so I'm glad that he lost the only 2 awards he was nominated for. He doesn't deserve them. Oh, and to the guy wondering how Chamillionaire beat Kanye- it's because Kanye wasn't nominated for that award.
Posted by: Kevin | September 1, 2006 11:20 AM
MTV PLAYS MUSIC VIDEO'S STILL!!!!! it's just that they only play them from 2am-6am..... you mean to tell me 4 hours of solid, commercial filled music video's- isn't enough for ya?! oh, and don't forget that riveting TRL, that shows 15 seconds of each video, because they're too busy interviewing the latest real-world cast member. I am not completely opposed to MTV playing some reality shows- as long as they have something to do with music: i.e. Making the Band, Making The Video, Hard Rock Live, etc. I just don't get how 7 strangers, picked to live in a house, and have their lives taped has anything to do with MUSIC TELEVISION!!!
KANYE WEST IS THE NEXT VANILLA ICE!!!!!....sort of
Posted by: Bob Knob | September 1, 2006 11:28 AM
I am like the rest of the "older" crowd. MTV has lost track of it's roots, which is MUSIC VIDEOS. And not to mention that late night show's like "head Bangers Ball" was one of the most exciting times in mtv history. Hey, MTV, please get back to playing some videos(rock preferably). I did watch some of the awards being presented to satisfy my 15year old daughter, and was not impressed.
Posted by: Paul | September 1, 2006 11:37 AM
The M in MTV is for Madonna ... How the heck did Hung Up NOT win anything ... that's crazy!
Posted by: Ryan | September 1, 2006 11:42 AM
i hate the fact that mtv sucks the big one. anyone could have seen this years ago.
Posted by: chris | September 1, 2006 11:58 AM
Face It, The record companies are not after the best Music out there.... They are after the dollars. Come on, these people are the ones who have given Paris Hilton , and Kevin Federline recording contracts!!!! I think next that the Geico Gecko will have a record deal..... I would buy that way before the formentioned....
Posted by: Dano | September 1, 2006 12:23 PM
When MTV first started, it was on at our house pretty much 24/7. Even my husband, who is not a big music fan, enjoyed it because the videos were creative and amusing. I haven't even tried to watch in 5 years and was frustrated whenever I tried to watch for the 5 years previous to that because they quit showing videos almost entirely unless it was RAP. BRING BACK THE MUSIC!!! I want to have fun again. I WANT MY MTV!!!
I think one thing that MTV could do to create more interest in music is to feature more new bands. Maybe have competitions in local markets to find the bands that are original and need exposure on a larger stage.
Another idea is to show some of the videos from the early days of MTV. Maybe dedicate an hour a day to showcase a particular director or artist from those days.
Posted by: Rosanna Thornton | September 1, 2006 12:33 PM
I didn't see all of this years VMA's, but I did see most of it. Parts of it were a disappointment, but they worked with what they had. Let's face it, recently "new music" hasn't been that great. Yeah, there are a few, but come on now, if you have money, you almost automatically have a record deal. Technology in the recording studio is a "wonderful" thing.
As for not playing music videos on MTV, well, no, they don't..On MTV..but they DO on MTVhits. Since MTVhits is part of MTV, those videos are more than likely the ones that are chosen from. I do agree the MTV itself should play more. The repeats of NEXT that have been playing since the show first came out however long ago can stop in my opinion. I personally think its just people thinking thier 5 min on a reality show is going ot make them famous. Reality check, no one will remember you. You get your 15 min of fame and your DONE.
Posted by: Anonymous | September 1, 2006 12:48 PM
I just wanted to say who picked those winners? I don't agree with them at all. I was very disappointed in who the winners where. There is no way Chris Brown could have lost to some of the nominees that where up against him. LEARN HOW TO PICK ACTUAL WINNERS!!!!!!!!!!!
Posted by: Mary | September 1, 2006 1:51 PM
MTV sucks my ass..I dont think they symbolize music anymore they just keep stupid college kids entertained so that our country can continue down the slope of perpetual dumbness!! DID any of them listen to Madonna's album..NOO..cuz it rocked more so than any of those other lamos....sorry M =(, thats ok though, atleast you still bring music to the public!
Posted by: marc | September 1, 2006 2:46 PM
ok- first of all- what about Chris Brown is original, or deserving of ANY acknowledgement? NOTHING! He sings through his nose, and has nothing of substance to offer. He deserved to lose.
2nd: Am I the only one that thought the OK GO: Treadmill routine was cool? No one has ever done anything like that on the VMA's- they even got a standing ovation for it!! I may not like the band, but they've got treadmill moves like none other!!!!
CONGRATS AFI!!!! one of the few artists/bands that actually deserved their award!!!!
Posted by: Chuck U Farley | September 1, 2006 2:50 PM
MTV plays music videos on MTV Hits, and on MTV Spanish, and on MTV 2. Those are all MTV channels so they do pplay a lot of music videos.
Posted by: Scotwith2TS | September 1, 2006 3:01 PM
I agree with those who said that this year's VMA was not entartaining at all. In fact, I think that in general, music is becoming less and less interesting and unique as well as the videos. The rock bands sounded and even looked the same for me, the hip-hop artists also. Timberlake did not seem passionate in his performance and Beyonce, though performed very good, seemed very redundant in her outfit and dance moves (I felt like I saw this performance along time ago, maybe Janet Jackson?). Shakira was my favorite performer although she did not sound good (probably because she was dancing while singing which is very hard).
Nevertheless, I could not believe that Madonna and Shakira did not win anything. Their songs and videos were very popular around the world and in America. I found it unrealistic and unfair. Also, the jokes of the host and Jack Asses (I am not sure about the proper names) were not funny at all. Frankly, it seemed that their jokes were created for idiots. I was disguasted by them.
Posted by: Veronika | September 1, 2006 3:32 PM
America is going in the toilet. Radio sucks and now MTV sucks. How is Madonna not winning anything even justified? I was shocked with the winners in each category. At least the Europeans have taste!
Posted by: Luis | September 1, 2006 5:13 PM
MTV just needs to get rid of all those anoying little shows like Laguna Beach, The Hills, and that sweet sixteen show, etc.. What so interesting about rich spoiled brats. Anybody else get annoyed when they hear about Laguna Beach? Those shows are just a waste of time!
Posted by: ??? | September 1, 2006 5:43 PM
hey! wath happend with shakira?? she must win at least one them! but noooo because she´s from colombia! mtv sucks!

First of all MTV is geared for 12- 18 year old females, and guys if you think what you see on MTV is cool well your a tool. I am a 30 year old male that grew up with MTV well one of us grew up I think the I.Q. of the MTV exec's is about the same as thier shoe sizes, It is just a commercial driven channel, what happened to the days advertisers were frightend to advertis on that risky, crazy MTV now every brand is throwing crap on MTV BECAUSE the 12-18 year old kids suck up crap thinking it is cool. Well now to the awards I would have to say 90% of what I saw were kids/artist that were picked on through out school that thought if I act like a thug or dress like the biggest freak in the bunch I am a MTV awards winner, I have to say the winners are picked by the MTV watchers, I just didnt know anyone watched any videos on MTV?!?!?!?!?!?! I like Jack Black so I thought I would watch this year WHAT A DISSAPPOINTMENT I want to kick someones ass for the 3hrs I lost watching all that crap, but I did like the Tred Mill thing that should have won atleast "coolest thing" all night.. And dont even get me started on the Video Director that won the MICHEAL Jackson Award WHAT????????????????? They had Freaken Lou Reed, but a video Director??????????
Thank you for letting me rant.
To Old For MTV Im OUT.

Everyone is trying to be different but they sound the same. I Hear the beat but where is the melody?
Posted by: Anne | September 1, 2006 11:32 PM
I think MTV is junk I was growing up when MTV was just comming out. When MTV came out in the 80s is was great now its a joke.
Posted by: Jeff Newinski | September 2, 2006 2:20 AM
I just have to say one thing, I hate James Blunt, I can't believe he won an award. His voice is so annoying.
Posted by: Tom | September 2, 2006 12:19 PM
I totally agree with Tom on that one, his life may be brilliant, but his voice is retarded.
Posted by: Jane | September 2, 2006 12:43 PM
were all of the winners chosen by public???
I don't think that panic!at the disco has more fans to vote than madonna...
this year VMA was soooo bad!!
how shakira, with 7 nominations didn't win anything???
Posted by: roxana | September 2, 2006 12:50 PM
You think thats bullshit? Im just pissed off by the video of the year nominees. Shakira? Christina Aguilera? They have good music, but in terms of music videos, there is way better out there. Crazy by Gnarls Barkley, cool and mezmerizing. Or better yet, Here it Goes Again by Ok Go. Who ever knew 4 guys on treadmills could look so awesome. And none of it was special effects. Its just 8 specifically arranged treadmills, and 4 guys with the song playing in the background. To hell with a live performance, they should have won or at least been nominated.
And then comes the other thing everybody has been saying, MTV doesnt even play music videos anymore so why do they have these awards? What does MTV? Laguna Beach, My Super Sweet 16. All shows for preppy white annoying spoiled brats. And then MTV has the nerve to have the Jackass crew on the awards. Its because of MTV that Jackass is over. So somebody sue'd them. With all the disclaimers and how big Jackass was, you dont lose a case like that.
And the biggest thing I hate about MTV, is that my music genre is nowhere to be found, EVER. Not even when it existed in the 80's at its highest point. Im talking about, metal. Pure insane, psychotic, satanic, heavy and dark as Hell itself, metal. When was the last time you saw Slipknot or Cradle of Filth on MTV? Hell, in the 80's where was Slayer and Black Sabbath?
To hell with MTV. VH1 has music videos every night (from 3AM to I dont know when its just music videos). They have entertaining shows on the side. And while metal isnt very big on VH1, it is talked about. Hell, this Saturday on VH1's Rock Docs, its metal. Oh and Rock Docs isnt just rock. The last Rock Docs had Tupac. Rap, Rock, Pop, Metal, and actual music videos. F*&% MTV, Im going with VH1.
Posted by: Anonymous | September 3, 2006 3:34 PM
ive gotta admit i didnt watch the VMA's this year.., actually i never have, but i did vote. i voted AFI for best rock video, as a loyal DF member. i think they were the only worthy band in their category and im so very glad that the DF members and other AFI fans pulled together to get them it. otherwise, the rest of the nominees were rubbish
Posted by: claire | September 4, 2006 4:36 PM
hey chuck u farley thanks for being supportive of AFI. they were worthy of winning and im ecstatic that they did! the rest of the nominees were extremely emo this year...eurgh. i really did not want the likes of newbie emo pricks panic at the disco winning (i refuse to put the stupid ! in their name)
and i agree with anonymous that "When was the last time you saw Slipknot or Cradle of Filth on MTV? Hell, in the 80's where was Slayer and Black Sabbath?" so true but the mainstreamers just like to block out most of the good music
Posted by: claire | September 4, 2006 4:42 PM

FUCK MTV..
MTV has totally gone down the crapper... LISTEN TO LOU REED.. PLAY MORE FUCKING ROCK MUSIC..
rap is ok, i guess.. but they are all studio and recording techniques.. DID YOU HEAR TI? THAT WAS CRAP... C-R-A-P..
I like to see artists who not only sound good on cd, but also LIVE.. if you cannot perform live, GET THE FUCK OUT..
...Paris Hilton.. FUCK YOU. She is the same waaay.. $50 says when she plays live it sounds like shit, or she is lip synching.
In Conclusion...
MTV FUCKING SUCKS NUTs..
The M no longer stands for music...

Is there a politics in VMA board members when it comes in choosing the winners or even the nominees? For example, The big names such as Madonna and Britney Spears in their list of nominations a few years back was intended only for fame or to be more sensationalized because their famous even their really have no chance of winning..they still put them in the list of nominees...well, that's a clever technique. uhuh! Look at britney spears..she's nominated alot-alot-alot of times but she did'nt win any of the categories even the TOXIC video which was really a strong and great video was still dump by the jurors...well, it's that a politics? Im not a britney fan but take a look also at this year's nominees.. Shakira deserves to win out of 7 nominations, she brings home nothing! oh, poor britney and shakira! MTV sucks!...

These comments are the most real and hilarious statements I've ever heard about MTV. I actually hurried home to see the VMA's and waited almost 2 1/2 hours to finally see something exciting... Beyonce... that even was a bit deja vu with her coming down from the roof... MTV sucks fat #$$#@! Jack Black is gay... he's not funny.. at all!!! I laughed at NOTHING HE SAID. The people that one seemed like they paid someone to get them on tv... WHO WERE THEY?.. ANYWAYS... I'LL THINK TWICE ABOUT TUNING IN NEXT TIME...

I agree with most people here, MTV sucked up with that stupid nominees, what the hell have they on head, how the fucking hell Madonna didnt won anything, HOW THE FUCKING ASS Panic at the Disco (what a dumb name, exactly like the band!) beat Christina Aguilera, Shakira and Madonna, HOW!!!!. MTV stop showing that reality fuck, stop giving those retards time on camera!, they're ruining the whole trajectory of MTV. Im from LatinAmerica, and unfortunatally, we have nothing but MTV's standart channel, so we have to wait till all of those retards gives a fuck to everyone seeing them. Last day i was seeing The 100 most MTV videos, wow i remembered how good was that times. Im 16, but i know about music, i consider that Equalizing voices is a pussy shit, it shows a band/singer as a godly voice artist, but when you hear live, you want to close your ears and run out world!. We are living a transition to the END OF MTV!
Posted by: Daniel | October 19, 2006 10:55 PM
yeah, all you guys are wrong, the VMAs totally rocked FACE this year. Panic! At the Disco totally rocked, but the best, I gotta say, was definately the All-American Rejects!
P.S. their concert is totally going to rock!

oh, by the way, the only part that completely sucked were the rap performances. They were pretty bad, but i don't like rap in general, so...

The video for the song 'crazy' by Gnarls Barkly should have gotten more nominess, its a very unique video, but its Mtv and you cant really expect them to appreciate art and talent. i mean the way they were praising my chemmical romance(before the show) was really pathetic, their song 'black parade' sucks and i really dont think their new album is gonne be 'epic'. Shakira should have won something, her video is WAY better than the pussy cat shits or kelly clarkson's. the only thing im happy with is Pink wining .
Posted by: anonymous | October 24, 2006 12:36 PM
umm, how did madonna not win anything. Hung Up was the best video of 2006. She is so underrated. Poor Madonna.

Today's mtv sucks.... as well as today's music....
what happened to rock music?? i am really disappointed...
mtv only shows and repeats boring and commercial music... music is far more than money..... i would like a new band to appear and show all this idiots what real music.. what real rock is... forget about all that emo punk shit or alternatives...
Posted by: anonimo. | December 28, 2006 2:06 PM
You guys are stupid! And DUMB as hell!!!! The reason why Shakira and Madonna and Christina didnt win is because their videos are great but they do not relate to the song...MTV winners win because their videos are either powerful..had good run in TRL...and the video has to relate to the song! Why did kelly win against madonna? I hate Kelly but in video comparison to all the female category..her video made sense...and there was concept put in to it and it had and awesome run on TRL...instead of saying OMG thats gonna win because that video is cool...and has a lot of dancing...think of the quality and if the song relates to the song....even though its MTV video awards..it wouldnt be anything without the song...thats why Hollaback Girl dindt win anything...because its about a booty call when the video is about cheerleading!

I only watched the VMA's to see My Chemical Romance in the pre-show, Jackass and the Best New Artist video. I was proud of Avenged Sevenfold that they won and was glad to know that there is a place for real rock. But, does that mean that they're mainstream? I think that they're becoming too mainstream with their news on MTV and their videos on MTV and winning a VMA! Either that or they have die hard fans that voted a ton of times, which is like impossible. How could A7X win best new artist over James Blunt, Rihanna, PATD, Chris Brown and Angels and Airwaves? These artists have been all over MTV and then a band that wasn't all over MTV win? I don't get it.

But the housing downturn and soaring oil prices have forced Chrysler and General Motors to make another round of surprising cuts, with no guarantees that these will be the last. On Thursday, Chrysler announced it would eliminate 11,000 hourly and salaried jobs in the United States and Canada, and cut shifts of workers at five plants. The decision comes on top of a plan, announced in February, to eliminate 13,000 jobs and close a factory in Newark, Del. Taken together, Chrysler will be reducing its 2006 work force of about 80,000 employees by 30 percent. General Motors also recently said that it would eliminate shifts at three assembly plants in Michigan. The moves, announced after G.M. union workers approved their new contract, will most likely cut 3,000 jobs, though G.M. has not confirmed the total. Two years ago, G.M. announced 30,000 job cuts as part of a broad revamping. “It does take one’s...http://big-internet-site.com/

But Wing Tai was down 2.3 percent at 2.57 dollars and CapitaLand was down 0.8 percent at 6.45 dollars. The latest work by Professor Raj Padwal and his team at the University of Alberta suggests in many cases these pills achieve little in terms of weight loss. They reviewed the evidence from thirty placebo controlled trials, involving nearly 20,000 people, where adults took one of three anti obesity drugs orlistat, sibutramine or rimonabant for a year or longer. The National Institute for health and Clinical Excellence recommends stopping the use of anti obesity drugs if 5% of total body weight is not lost after three months. All of the volunteers in the trials were deemed obese, and weighed an average of 100kg (15.7 stone). Orlistat reduced weight by 2.9kg, sibutramine by 4.2kg and rimonabant by 4.7kg. Patients taking the weight loss pills...http://wl-site.com/

1 quarterback before suffering a knee injury, is available in reserve. Coach Karl Dorrell has not entirely blamed injuries for his team's troubles, but said, "They have been a part of it... We need continuity. I think every offense and defense would love to have continuity from Game 1 through Game 11. As coaches, we would love that, but it is hard in this sport to have 11 players from start to finish on your team on either side of the ball." Oregon starts the game ranked fifth in rushing offense, fifth in total offense and eighth in scoring offense. That, though, was with Dixon at quarterback. Brady Leaf, who suffered a sprained left ankle against...http://coolnews-4u.com/
