The Kode
It's a big month for the Video Game industry, but The Kode will make you forget about the Playstation 3 and the Wii. This synth-rock-jam-band from Boston reinvents the classic blips and beeps that made up video game theme songs of the late 80's and early 90's. The result is more complex versions of our favorite simple tunes.

these guys suck.
hey didn't reinvent anything that isn't already done by the minibosses years ago, and done better.

Excellent stuff! how about giving us some Sega tunes? I'd love to hear your version of sonic's background music...

Interesting. All classic games that I love.

Not bad but definatly not 'Reinventing' a genre there's been planty of others that have done this before 'Press Play On Tape' & 'Minibosses' to name a couple. Still some nicely done versions there would be nice to see some more obscure games being covered though.

To say that we suck is not even worth commenting on. Yes, there are lots of video game bands but here is what we are trying to accomplish, to set ourselves apart from the other bands....(1) play the tunes at the original tempos (the minibosses don't do that), (2) Play the tunes as close to 100% accurately whether that's in the melody, the bass whatever. Being a bass player I know that the other guys aren't doing this, atleast the bass players, (3) add solo sections for more of a progressive feel, (4) play tunes from lots of different consoles. We currently play over 30 titles, some from nintendo, sega, snes, N64. (5) to play popular titles that the other bands don't play. RC Pro Am, Double Dragon, Contra, Paperboy, Gemini Man, etc aren't played by any other group. Why? Because they are really hard to play. To compare us to another VG band would be like comparing Springsteen to Green Day. They both play guitar, sing, have drums, so they are the same thing...right?! Thanks for the comments, good and bad. Hope to see you at Saturdays show. We will be playing some obscure games aswell as some sonic.
Thanks,
John

Well for points (2) & (3) actually 'Press Play On Tape' have done exactly that, as well as on a couple occasions adding lyrics too. Don't get me wrong I'm not putting you guys down at all I think you've done a great job, I just disagree with the 'reinventing' part of the comment.

Well. I didn't write the blog. I understood reinventing in the context of us taking the 8bit sound and transferring it over to instruments, thus reinventing the sound. Not as that we are doing anything Avant Gard with it. To reinvent in that context would defeat our purpose as we look to nostalgia with a kick as our musical vision. I'll check out "press play on tape". Thanks

i find them rather boring

??? first off the mini bosses suck, real bad. Atleast put the advantage in comparison not some sloppy band like mini bosses. and next this band is really good. This band plays these songs how they should be played. The have correct notation, amazing guitar tone for what they are doing annnd they add their own musical spin that actually makes sense.
Anyone who says they suck is 100% jealous without a doubt. 95% of covers of nintendo songs are terrible sounding...wrong notes everywhere..and a bad representation of beautiful music. Keep up the good freaking work guys.

solid security for borrowing. It is not any scarcity of gold and free christian layouts for myspace to prevent their importation, it would not be able to effectuate
