The Upwelling
After reading SPIN's high praise of The Upweling, I was inclined to check out the three piece. These guys conduct a moody maelstrom of strums and electronic sounds beneath lead singer Ari Ingber's powerful vocals. Unlike many other bands searching for a single, The Upwelling creates carefully orchestrated concept albums - each song a chapter in a story, seamlessly bleeding into each other.

Having seen them live opening for Third Eye Blind (and I left after a couple songs of the headliner... but that's neither the point nor surprising), I have to say I was really disappointed by these guys. The demo tracks are amazing, but they'd lost all of the 'something extra' evident in these samples. They really sounded like just another would-be pop band. Sad really.
Hopefully it can be chalked up to trying (and failing, mind you, the people who did care about TEB didn't like them either) to play to the annoying lot that go to a Third Eye Blind concert, but it didn't seem so.
